I'm currently using the 580EXII. When I'm using the flash I am not able to change the shutter past 1/250th. Is there a solution to this or a way I can compensate?

Dude, That sounds about right. Most flashes max sync is around 250. Check you flash specifically for any high sync functionality... i think the 7D is compatible and if so i think you can get around 500 out of them, but not totally sure. Also try your flash on manual, might speed things up a wee bit. Hope that helps.... you can use off camera flash triggers to speed things up. The pocket wizard mini and flex series boost flash sync up to around the 1200 mark i think.
